GenX Exposure Study

Welcome to the GenX Exposure Study

The GenX Exposure Study is measuring GenX and other PFAS exposure in people living near the Cape Fear River Basin, North Carolina – the drinking water source for numerous North Carolina communities. We aim to understand current exposure and potential health effects to help answer questions for North Carolina residents.

We continue to work with other researchers to better understand PFAS and their effects. Science is a process and takes time, and we look forward to sharing our work with you.

2023 Blood PFAS Results

Personal PFAS Results from blood samples collected in Fall 2023 will be sent out by mail starting in April 2024 and will continue throughout the Spring. We will send personal PFAS results as they become available. This means you may get your own results before or after other people in the study.

After we get the PFAS data for everyone, we will send a follow-up letter with graphs to show your personal results within your community, like we have done in the past. We will also host community meetings and webinars to discuss these latest PFAS results later this year.

Feel free to contact us with any questions!
